The previous review has described "Retribution" so well! I can only say that I really "felt" the emotions of the characters. The characters drew me in, and the plot was handled very well. I am very anxious for the sequel!

I was pulled into this story and found it both evocative and provocative. I especially loved the tortured hero, Michael, never more commanding than when he is fighting for his son. I don't usually ready paranormals but I found this one multi-layered and with lots of texture.
My goodness, what a new adventure with vampires, guardians, empaths, sorcerers, seers, and so many other demonic creatures as well as a wealth of "Good Guys".

The Champion, Michael Malone, pulls off a feat of never-before-known magnitude in the struggle between Good and Evil in the world. He pays a high price but knows he can never do enough to atone for 100 years of unspeakable deeds.

As the reader vicariously experiences the actions in his dreams, emotions range from the most horrific pain one creature can inflict on another to the purest of love one can bestow on another. Also, some of the wonderful in-between emotions are breathtaking. The extent some characters go to help another is mind boggling.

Michael Malone, a vampire, knows that only by ending his existence can his son Lukas and his guardian / secret love Alana be safe. This he determines to do and at the same time destroy a network of Evil in the world.

Alana, Michael's soul mate as well as his guardian, risks all for him. As she and a multitude of others work to help Michael attain redemption and defeat Evil, the reader gets to see mystical, spiritual, and very human events that make the adrenaline pump fast in the veins.

At times the writing style takes concentration to follow but the plot is so intriguing one feels compelled to continue because so much is at stake for so many of the characters. Characters like Thorn, Helena, Zia Rosa and many others are evidence of Good in the world.

Retribution! is my first adventure into this paranormal realm but I'm sure it will not be my last. If you enjoy supernatural events with Good pitted against Evil, Retribution! should captivate you.

Michael Malone is one of a kind. He is a mystically enhanced vampire who is destined to be the Champion of the Georgian Circle and defeat their enemies. But when he is attacked by an evil monster, his life lies in the balance. Caught in a poisoned sleep, he has the aid of his angel Helena and only his dreams...dreams that hinge upon his perfect mate, Guardian of Souls Alana and his mortal teenaged son, Lukas. But what is the dream and what is the reality?

It pains me greatly to say this, but Retribution! is the only review book I ever read in my 8 years as a reviewer that I wanted to just quit reading. I suffered through this book for well over a month and I kept having to put it down to read other things instead. I was bored and confused and wondering when the story was going to get interesting. This is especially upsetting because the premise of the story sounded fascinating and something I should have loved. But the delivery of the story was not at all to my interest.

The writing style was awkward throughout most of the book with some very bizarre point of view shifts, and not always head jumping, sometimes the point of view of one character changed drastically. In one paragraph, we'd go from third person narration for a character to first person, and it wasn't always because we transitioned into internal dialogue. This confused me so much every time it happened as I couldn't tell why the change occurred. Then there were scenes where each paragraph was a different character's point of view and no warning was given that the head jump was occurring.

I also couldn't understand why the author mentioned the characters the way she did sometimes. Nine times out of ten she didn't use their names, but their role in the story when talking about the characters. It was always "the teenager" or "the Guardian" or "the empath" or "the psychic." Why such an aversion to using their names? I'm sure there was a reason for it, but all that did for me was distance me even further from the characters than I already was due to lack of interest in the story. And was it really necessary to tell us 100 times that Michael was a "mystically enhanced" vampire? I got it after the first time or two, I didn't need to be repeatedly told.

Retribution! Was an extremely slow paced story, I'm assuming due to the way we were being told the story, through dreams rather than actual events. I've read many slow paced stories over my years as a book lover, but this one was so hard to actually get emotionally invested in. Then there is the fact that we don't know which parts of the story are the dreams and which the reality until the last chapter or two. I actually had jumped ahead to read the last chapter to see how the story ended, only to find the ending did not fit at all with what I had read before I jumped ahead. So I had to go back and read the whole book to figure out what was going on. Sadly, I would have rather stayed in dreamland. Michael and company were far more interesting there.

I am sorry to say I was as disappointed in Retribution! as I was. I can only hope that for people who continue to read The Champion Chronicles that the books get more appealing and faster paced. I will not be continuing on in the series myself though.

Very Good Read!! What will happen when Michael regains his strength? Retribution!

I found michael malone very intriguing in his quest for redemption. loved the supporting characters thorn, celia and son lukas as well. enjoyed reading this first novel of the champion chronicles and looking foward to learning how michael pursues the redemption of his soul!
As an avid reader of books, mostly mysteries, I ventured into the world of the paranormal by reading RETRIBUTION. It amazes me that a writer has the imagination to write about good and evil through the redemption of the vampire, Michael Malone. Recognizing that there are some confusing moments in the beginning of the book, you must go beyond this and get into the heart of the story of redemption and the love between Michael and Alana, and his love for his human son. The characters of Thorn, Celia, Miles and of course, Zia Rosa, give weight to the rest of the story. The conclusion of the book leaves you wanting to know more about what will happen to everyone once Michael regains his strength.

I am looking forward to the next book in the Champion Chronicles, and I believe that if there are any mistakes editorially and/or in the actual written words in Retribution as implied elsewhere, the next book in the series will be even more compelling because as with all of us who do something we've never done before, if we continue to strive to learn we can only get better at what we are trying to accomplish and in this case it is to tell a story of love, the fight between good and evil, and the redemption of the soul. So bring on the next book - let's see what M. Flagg has in store for us in this one!
